The Freedom Coin Act, which authorized the American Silver Eagle program and took effect on October 1, 1985, was signed by President Reagan on July 9, 1985, stipulating that no coins should be produced or sold until September 1, 1986. After all of this, the first American Eagle silver coin was finally released on November 24, 1986, and it’s taken the world by storm ever since.
